Julian Walker, Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association, on Medicaid Expansion

This week, J.R.’s guest is Julian Walker of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association (VHHA) to talk about Medicaid Expansion in Virginia.

In this podcast, Julian discusses the impact on Virginia hospitals and the surrounding communities by not expanding Medicaid. He also explains how Virginians, regardless of what the General Assembly does, are still paying into the Medicaid program. He addresses the federal debt, the possibility of the federal government reducing Medicaid subsidies to states, and the overall taxpayer burden. He also discusses the importance of quality care.

And, he goes into detail about a Public Opinion Strategies poll that VHHA commissioned which shows that 83% of Virginians favor Medicaid expansion.

VHHA has 28 member health systems, representing 110 community, psychiatric, rehabilitation, and specialty hospitals throughout Virginia.
